This 60-minute webinar addresses screening and management of depression and other common mental disorders in HIV care settings. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will:
Understand the impact of depression and other mental health disorders on HIV prevention and care;
Consider opportunities in their own clinical practice to increase screening and addressing depression among people living with HIV;
Learn about strategies and resources to support suicide risk assessment in primary care settings.
Presented by:
Lydia Chwastiak MD, MPH is a psychiatrist and internal medicine physician and a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington. Her research and clinical work have focused on the development, adaptation and implementation of integrated care interventions to improve care and outcomes for people who live with both chronic medical conditions and mental health disorders. Dr. Chwastiak is the co-director of the Northwest Mental Health Technology Transfer Center, whose mission is to disseminate and support the implementation of evidence-based interventions for serious mental illnesses in healthcare organizations in HHS Region 10. She is also a core faculty member of the Advancing Integrated Mental Health Solutions (AIMS) Center at the University of Washington, and directs the Integrated Care research core of the NIMH-funded UW Behavioral Research Center for HIV (BIRCH).
