HIVinfo

HIVinfo.nih.gov offers access to the latest, federally approved HIV/AIDS medical practice guidelines, HIV treatment and prevention clinical trials, and other research information for health care providers, researchers, people affected by HIV/AIDS, and the general public. English and Spanish-speaking health information specialists from the Office of AIDS Research are available Monday-Friday, 1pm - 4pm Eastern Time.

INFECTIOUS DISEASES EDUCATION & ASSESSMENT (IDEA) PROGRAM

The IDEA program operates five key national training websites (below). The federally-funded sites offer a variety of content with FREE CME credit and CNE/CE contact hours.  The IDEA mission is to deliver innovative, free, online education and training to diagnose, manage, and prevent infectious diseases. The goals of the IDEA curricula are to:

  • Improve and enhance the competency of health professionals currently providing medical care to people living with or at risk for infectious diseases;
  • Expand the number of health professionals interested in and capable of providing competent medical care to those individuals;
  • Improve the quality of medical care; and
  • Prevent new infections among persons at risk.

NATIONAL HIV CURRICULUM

The National HIV Curriculum (NHC) is a free, up-to-date educational resource for healthcare professionals to learn about HIV diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. The website features 6 modules with 37 lessons addressing core competencies in HIV care, as well as 37 corresponding Question Bank topics with more than 390 interactive, case-based questions.  Additional content includes an ART Medications section, Clinical Guides, Mini-Lectures, and the NHC Podcast. The NHC offers more than 90 free CME credits, CNE/CE contact hours, and more than 65 free pharmacology CE for advance practice nurses. The NHC is funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and is an AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC) Program.

NATIONAL HIV PREP CURRICULUM

The National HIV PrEP Curriculum (NHPC) is a free, up-to-date educational website for health care professionals to learn how to assess, initiate and monitor HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP).  The curriculum offers 2 modules (HIV PrEP Fundamentals and HIV PrEP In-Depth Topics) with 11 interactive lessons addressing core competencies in HIV PrEP initiation and management. The site offers an optional HIV PrEP Training Certificate for learners who successfully complete the HIV PrEP Fundamentals module. Additional content includes an HIV PrEP Tools for Clinicians app, Mini-Lectures, Panel Discussion videos, Clinical Guides, and key resources. The NHPC offers 14 free CME credits and CNE contact hours with 10 free pharmacology CE for advance practice nurses. The NHPC is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

NATIONAL STD CURRICULUM

The National STD Curriculum (NSTDC) is a free, up-to-date educational resource for healthcare professionals to learn about clinical manifestations, diagnosis, management, and prevention of sexually transmitted infections. The website features 9 lessons with 28 Question Bank topics with more than 260 interactive case-based questions.  Additional content includes an STD Lecture Series, an Mpox Guide, and the STD Podcast with more than 50 episodes. The NSTDC offers more than 38 free CME credits, CNE contact hours, and more than 16 free pharmacology CE for advance practice nurses. The NSTDC is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

HEPATITIS C ONLINE

Hepatitis C Online is a free, up-to-date resource addressing the diagnosis, treatment, and management of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. The curriculum offers 6 modules with 31 lessons. The HCV Biology section features high-quality illustrations and detailed descriptions of the HCV structure, proteins, and life cycle.  Additional content includes HCV Medications, Mini-Lectures, Clinical Challenges, and 12 clinical calculators. Hepatitis C Online offers 31 free CME credits, CNE contact hours, and 12 free pharmacology CE for advance practice nurses. Hepatitis C Online is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

HEPATITIS B ONLINE

Hepatitis B Online is a free, up-to-date resource addressing the diagnosis, management, and treatment of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The website features 11 lessons and additional content includes HBV Medications and Vaccinations, Mini-Lectures, Clinical Challenges, and 12 clinical calculators to provide decision support. Hepatitis B Online offers 12 free CME credits, CNE contact hours, and 9 free pharmacology CE for advance practice nurses. Hepatitis B Online is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
