Presentation Details:
This session examines the recent HIV outbreak among homeless, injecting drug using heterosexual women in Seattle and the challenges a novel model of care faced in engaging and retaining them in treatment.
Objectives:
-Discuss the epidemiology of the recent HIV outbreak among heterosexual, IDU people.
-Describe how homelessness, IDU, and transactional sex can affect the health and treatment outcomes for women living with HIV.
-Identify strategies employed by the Safe, Healthy and Empowered (SHE) clinic to address HIV risks among the target population.
