Our Mission
The MWAETC delivers innovative education and training to improve access to care and quality of life for people with or are at increased risk for acquiring HIV.
We offer HIV education and training
The Mountain West AIDS Education & Training Center (MWAETC), based at the University of Washington, offers education and training, clinical consultation, and capacity building assistance on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of HIV and commonly associated co-morbidities, such as viral hepatitis, STIs and substance use disorders, to health care professionals and organizations across our ten state region.
Our 10 states include:

- North and South Dakota

- Montana
- Oregon
- Utah
- Washington
- Wyoming
We train and educate healthcare providers
Our primary audience includes physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dental professionals, clinical pharmacists, behavioral health specialists, and other health care team members. We offer training for Ryan White funded clinics and agencies, federally funded community and migrant health centers, tribal and Indian Health Service clinics, hospital clinics, state and local health departments, corrections facilities, and private practice settings serving persons with HIV.
As the HIV epidemic disproportionately affects sexual, racial and ethnic minorities in the region, the MWAETC offers specific programming for health care providers and organizations serving these populations. We have the capacity to address social determinants of health, as well as population-specific issues that may affect access to quality health care.
We are publicly funded
We are a part of a network that consists of two national clinical consultation and resource centers and eight regional AETCs that cover the United States, Puerto Rico and U.S. territories in the Virgin Islands and the Pacific. Funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the national AETC network is the professional training arm of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program. We are a proud member of the National Alliance for HIV Education and Workforce Development (NAHEWD).
