Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Initiatives

The HIV epidemic disproportionately impacts racial, ethnic, and sexual minority populations. This is manifest in diagnosis rates and trends, access to care, and in outcomes along the HIV care continuum.

We are committed to reducing health inequities and increasing affirming care for all people living with and at risk for HIV. Ryan White Minority AIDS Initiative funds help support our work to improve HIV prevention, diagnosis, and care for people who are racial or ethnic minorities.

Our work in this arena is multi-pronged and includes:

  • Partnering with organizations that have specific cultural expertise, including African-American, Alaska Native, American Indian, and Latinx
  • Hiring diverse staff, faculty, and consultants with lived experience
  • Exploring our own biases and engaging in cultural humility work
  • Providing training, technical assistance, and coaching on unconscious bias, social determinants of health, and on mitigating these impacts in the clinical setting
  • Providing culturally-specific programming
  • Partnering with organizations to reduce racial disparities in PrEP access and uptake
  • Recognizing the impact of historical and lived trauma
  • Providing training and technical assistance on providing trauma-informed care
  • Engaging in anti-stigma work
  • Prioritizing training for minority and minority-serving organizations.
  • Providing training on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI)
  • Providing training on transgender care
  • Supporting development of a more diverse and reflective healthcare workforce
  • Engaging in multi-cultural needs assessment
